Staff Hiring Process
Once you have determined that you need or once you have gained approval to hire an employee you will need to create a position description and post the job. To do so you will need to have access to TAMUJobs as a supervisor/manager. Contact your departmental administrative office or Carol Holmes to gain access. Review the full list of steps and requirements to creating and approving a position description on the TAMU Human Resources site.
After your open position has received an appropriate number of diverse applicants, contact your departmental administrative office to have the position put on hold. You will also need to gather a group of qualified individuals to serve on a hiring committee for your position. Each member of the committee will review all applicants based a set number of skills and requirements detailed in a Hiring Matrix that you have provided. The committee will then select the top applicants to interview along with the questions that will be asked of each.
When your candidate signs and returns the offer letter, you will need to work with your departmental administrative office to update the status online position description and get the following paperwork completed:
Faculty Hiring Process
Faculty hiring is a coordinated effort between the department and Dean’s office staff. Programs looking to hire faculty should first work with the Assistant to the Department Head for specific guidelines within their department.

Research Hiring Process
For Researchers who need to hire research personnel, they will first need to determine if they will hire a faculty-equivalent position. Faculty-equivalent positions should be posted using a Research Personnel Posting Request form with one of these appropriate faculty-equivalent titles:
- Assistant Research Scientist
- Associate Research Scientist
- Research Scientist
- Postdoctoral Research Associate
Non-faculty equivalent positions should be posted using a Notice of Vacancy (NOV) with Human Resources. Once a Hiring Certificate has been received, a Research Personnel Action (RPA) will need to be prepared and routed. A Resume/CV should be attached to the request.

International Hiring Process
The international hiring process can be very specific to the individual being hired and/or the position being filled. For guidance on this process please contact the CEHD Business Office. The International Faculty and Scholar Services website also provides useful information regarding hiring international employees.
Job Titles and Classifications
The Human Resources website provides a complete list of classified and non-classified titles in use throughout the University along with an established minimum rate. You may also need to review the career ladder to ensure the employee or job description is following the appropriate path within the area of expertise.
